IXC Opens Internet Data Center in Austin

Austin, TX-based IXC Communications Inc. has opened $4 million data center in Austin. The facility provides Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Internet businesses with high-speed access to the Internet. The facility connects to IXC's Gemini2000 next-generation Internet backbone network via an OC-12 (622 Megabits per second) connection that can be expanded to OC-48 (2,500 Mbps).

The carrier grade facility is also supplemented by DS-3 (52 Mbps) interconnects to other major ISPs for increased capacity and redundancy, providing IXC's customers with direct access to more than 90% of the country's Internet population. Gemini2000 is designed to make the new Internet 100 to 1,000 times faster than today's Internet. Gemini2000 was activated last December and is the first next-generation Internet backbone network to carry both research and commercial traffic.

In connection with the opening of the new facility, IXC is offering an enhanced collocation service. The company will continue to expand and improve its existing value-added services including e-commerce, high-bandwidth Internet access, and Web hosting. Other future product rollouts will include unified messaging, streaming media, and other advanced services.
