Vitesse Semiconductor Corp.Enhanced IPMI Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) was specifically designed for Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) applications. The device offers a complete solution for controlling and monitoring functions, such as power, fans, intrusion, and temperature within servers, storage area networks, telecom switching equipment and embedded systems.

It supports both X-Bus (ISA-like) and Low Pin Count (LPC) system interfaces providing system designers the flexibility to use the same BMC for entry to high-end server and embedded systems. The Software Development Kit (SDK) for Vitesse Semiconductor Corp.simplifies implementation by providing customers quick development of IPMI 1.0 firmware and the personality module for use by the on-chip RISC processor, accelerating time to market. With IPMI as the recommended interface in CompactPCI embedded systems, Vitesse Semiconductor Corp.is ideal for these applications. The device offers an efficient Block Transfer interface, as well as, KCS and SMIC logical interfaces for host communication. The device has three integrated general purpose UART's and four I2C serial interfaces for direct attachment to the Intelligent Chassis and Platform Management Busses (ICMB and IPMB). It also provides on-chip fan speed monitoring and PWM control, an 8 input 10-bit ADC, and up to 50 general purpose I/O pins to reduce board space.
