INO Digs Holey Fibers

INO is proud to introduce its capacity to manufacture holey fibers. The combination of a solid core and a reduced effective index in the cladding region, resulting from the longitudinal holes matrix, allows the propagation of the light in a way similar to conventional fibers. The new properties of these fibers are determined by the size and spacing of the holes.

Although several designs of these new fibers have been conducted, INO has concentrated its efforts on developing holey fibers that have very small cores. In doing so, non-linear effects inherent to the size of the core, are greatly enhanced. In the upcoming months, INO plans on developing designs that will permit single-mode operation across a broader range of wavelengths and core diameters.

Regardless of the fact that INO does not offer a standard holey fiber product, INO is willing to create cooperative partnerships with companies wishing to get involved with this new emerging technology.
