IMPSAT Fiber Networks Offers Network Build Update
On its way to completing a South American network by December, Latin American carrier Impsat Fiber Networks Inc. (Buenos Aires) offers a progress report on the project. During the first quarter of 2000, Impsat constructed 1,192 new route km of duct and installed a total of 1,280 new route km of fiber.
Impsat has completed a network section between Buenos Aires and Rosario that it expects to be ready for operation in mid-year. Rosario is an important industrial center with 1.5 million inhabitants. With approximately 228 km of duct deployed across the Andes and loaded with non-zero dispersion fiber, Impsat claims to be the first new carrier to accomplish the feat.
