Remotely managed T1/E1/J1 Converters are Ideal for Extending Telco and PBX Circuits over Fiber Optics in Local Loop and Long-haul Applications

Foothill Ranch, California, October 31, 2002 — IMC Networks, a leading manufacturer of fiber optic connectivity and LAN/WAN bandwidth management solutions for Local, Wide and Metropolitan area network applications, today announced its new, remotely managed T1/E1/J1 fiber converter. The T1/E1/J1 converter and network extender is available as a module for the Central Office and as a standalone unit for Customer Premises applications. The T1/E1/J1 series is an ideal solution for converting the twisted pair interfaces found on most telecommunications equipment and routers to fiber optics, and extending the transmission distances of these circuits up to 80 kilometers. Featuring remote SNMP management, support for multiple protocols and fiber types, and advanced diagnostic and troubleshooting tools, the new T1/E1/J1 series is designed as a cost-effective and flexible solution for both enterprise LAN and service provider applications.

"Given today's economic climate, both public and private network operators are looking to maximize the investments in the existing copper-based active equipment and network infrastructure," said Michael Dailey, president and chief executive officer of IMC Networks. "Our new T1/E1/J1 fiber converter allows network operators to extend the productive life of their legacy equipment and break the physical distance limitations of twisted pair circuits by converting to fiber optics," continued Dailey.

Features and Functionality
The new T1/E1/J1 series converts twisted pair network segments to fiber optics for increased transmission distance. Deployed in pairs, T1/E1/J1 converters are available with regular ST, SC and MT-RJ duplex fiber connectors, as well as with new Single-Strand Fiber technology that doubles the capacity of fiber optic networks and enables full duplex data communications over just one strand of fiber. The T1/E1/J1 series supports the ANSI, AT&T, ITU and ETSI standards along with AMI, B8ZS and HDB3 line codes.

The standalone T1/E1/J1 for customer premises applications features an extended operating temperature range and internal power supply that greatly increases unit reliability. The iMcV-T1/E1/J1 modules for Central Office applications install into the iMediaCenter™ Chassis Series, featuring the industry's first embedded SNMP management. T1/E1/J1 converters are managed via the intuitive and user-friendly iView² SNMP management application or via other popular management platforms, such as HP OpenView™. SNMP management enables network administrators to configure, manage and monitor the T1/E1/J1 converters. Via iView², users can conduct loopback testing, remotely troubleshoot cable problems, monitor unit port status and receive vital unit status information.

Price and Availability
Available immediately, T1/E1/J1 modules start from $570. Standalone models will be available during the 4th quarter. IMC Networks' solutions are distributed domestically through Graybar, Ingram Micro and Tech Data, and through a network of distributors in over 50 countries around the world.
