The ESX-3000 High Density LAN Edge Switch combines asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technology with Application Aware Ethernet innovations.
The switch is a modular solution offering a combined density of Ethernet and ATM LAN ports, yielding the option of implementing ATM or Ethernet or a mixture of both without requiring different backplane versions.
The product maximizes network edge performance and scalability with industry-leading density of ATM and Ethernet ports. With eight port card slots, the switch offers support for 192 ports of 10/100 Mbps Ethernet, 128 ports of OC-3c (155 Mbps) ATM or 32 ports of OC-12c (622 Mbps) ATM. In addition, the device is the only ATM LAN edge switch that is architected to be OC-48c (2.5 Gbps) ready. The switch features a 20 Gbps, non-blocking distributed shared memory architecture, and is available in half capacity (10 Gbps) to permit even more deployment options.
