Fujitsu Wins Metro SONET Contract from Focal
The three-year agreement supports Focal's plans to deploy service in 20 markets throughout the country by the end of 2000, encompassing 50 metropolitan statistical areas. Focal recently acquired a total of 10,800 miles of metro fiber in major cities across the U.S. The contract also covers advanced and next-generation solutions such as Fujitsu's Flash product family, which includes the FLASH150 ADX and FLASH600 ADX hybrid multiservice transmission systems. The FLASH-192 is Fujitsu's OC-192 SONET add/drop multiplexer that transmits voice and data signals at a rate of 10 Gbps, or the equivalent of more than 129,000 simultaneous telephone calls, over a single fiber.
Also available to Focal under the contract are Fujitsu's Factr (Fujitsu Access/Transport System) universal access platform, Flexr Plus element management software, and Flashwave Metro dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) system, which provides up to 40 Gbps capacity for metropolitan applications.
