FPDP Connection System
The FibreXpress Simplex Link is a system from Systran Corp. that allows Front Panel Data Port (FPDP) connections to be extended over distances up to 10 km. The Simplex Link maintains the simplicity, high-bandwidth and low latency of FPDP connections, while supporting long-distance and multiple-destination broadcast capabilities. It provides the ideal long-distance sensor connection for advanced distributed Digital Signal Processing (DSP) systems.
The system is a dedicated, unidirectional data channel that broadcasts FPDP signals and data using the lowest two layers (FC-0 & FC-1) of the Fibre Channel standard. The system receives FPDP data through a standard 80-pin Front Panel Data Port and immediately inserts the data into 0 to 2 KB packets for broadcast via fiberoptic media. Because it uses the lowest levels of the Fibre Channel standard, the system can utilize the 1.062 Gb/s baud rate of Fibre Channel without incurring the significant latencies associated with standard Fibre Channel networks
The Simplex Link is implemented by sets of Simplex Link Source Cards (SLSCs) and corresponding Simplex Link Destination Cards (SLDCs). In a standard point-to-point configuration, all data is transmitted from a single source card to a single destination card, and the destination card can provide flow control commands back to the source card.
