FibreGuard
The system and the FibreView Management Software collect periodic optical power levels on the monitored network for comparison against baseline levels recorded when the system was installed or when the network was turned up. Using the degradation data, a point somewhere in time can be computed at which the degrading power level reaches the network device's minimum receiver sensitivity causing the link to fail.
Because of cost and practicality, a fiber optic network is rarely taken out of service for routine testing and measurement. This system can track and graph degradation over time and predict an impending failure. As a result, network managers can effectively plan downtime and deploy crews to maintain and repair failing links.
The system also displays optical power levels entering equipment in real-time without disrupting the data stream. On-line, remote-accessible knowledge of power levels allows troubleshooting of optical network devices from the network operations center, while protecting expensive optical receivers from overload. This information, coupled with detailed optical routing and records found within the system, is beneficial to engineers and managers during query and problem-solving.
The system's controller module continuously interrogates its monitor and management cards to determine the real-time condition of your fiber network. It provides the communication link between the Management System Software in the network operation center and the FibreGuard modules.
