FibreConverters
In addition to 'full-optic' units (FC/RFC3735, 3835 & 5669) which utilize active transmitters & receivers for both singlemode and multimode sides of the unit, 'half-optic' models (FC/RFC1333 & 5335B) can provide the same connectivity for a reduction in price.
The existing multimode network devices generally determine the style of converter (half or full optics) required. On short-haul singlemode links or when used with multimode equipment which has better than -24dBm minimum receiver sensitivity, the half optic units should be suitable. Full-optic versions are desirable for devices with a very narrow receiver threshold, when the distance to the multimode device is very long, or if a constant output transmitter is desired.
The converters are available stand-alone (FC-Series), or as a module for the FibreGuard Optical Management System (RFC-Series). When used as part of the system, single or redundant 120/240v AC or 48v DC power supplies are available, as well as a wide array of optical management modules from active / dark fiber monitoring and automatic optical switching to WDM/DWDM and system control units. The 19" wide FibreGuard chassis accomodates up to eight modules in its 3 rack units (5.25 in. / 133.4 mm) of vertical cabinet space. Up to 32 chassis' can be interlinked for massive fiber capacity.
Additional applications for the converters include usage to extend the range of low-power singlemode devices, or between two devices as a repeater.
