The MTS 5100 Mini OTDR, and the MTS 5200 Mainframe OTDR from Wavetek incorporate two docking bays for optical modules to increase test and measurement capabilities of these optical time-domain reflectometers. The multimode modules enable network installers and maintainers to switch between single mode, and multimode testing to evaluate the performance of hybrid fiber-optic local area networks.

Multimode optical modules are available in single wavelength 850 nm or 1,330 nm versions, and a dual wavelength 850/1,300-nm version. All the modules offer a 22 dB dynamic range, and at 850 nm, provide a minimum event dead zone of one meter. This enables accurate discrimination of two reflective events, such as connectors or mechanical splices.
