A robust diode laser designed for pumping high-gain, dual-core ytterbium/erbium-doped fiber amplifiers
JDS Uniphase Corporationode laser designed for pumping high-gain, dual-core ytterbium/erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (YEDFAs) at 965 nm produces 500 mW of continuous-wave power from a 30-µm-wide ridge. The 965L-BA30-G03-SX-P500 chip-on-submount device operates at a minimum threshold current of 10 mA (46.9 mA measured). The beam shape is optimized for coupling into a wedged multimode fiber tip, with a lateral divergence of 5 ° (FWHM) and a vertical divergence of 24 ° (FWHM). Accelerated lifetime testing predicts a minimum mean-time-to-failure in excess of 100,000 hours under standard operating conditions.
