The EMS-100 element management system is designed to provide telecommunications management network architecture functionality. The product can operate as a stand-alone system or it can interface to upstream operations system to offer network element management functions. The EMS-100 is comprised of the central controller and the domain controller. The domain controller, as part of the distributed processing system, directly manages up to 1,000 subtending network elements (NEs). The central controller provides the Q3 interface to communicate with the upstream network management system. Analysts predict that fiber may totally replace copper in the local loop within the next 20 years. This optical access revolution will offer unprecedented opportunities for companies. To meet this challenge, NEC's products and technologies are positioned to serve distinct market areas: large businesses, medium-sized businesses, small businesses, and residential access.
