ECI Telecom Gavle has contracted <%=company%> to supply a fully-managed optical backbone network for seven regions in central Sweden for several Swedish energy companies to deliver broadband services to the region's 1.6 million inhabitants. ECI estimates the two-year project to be worth $15 million, with the potential to increase dramatically. ECI will work with network integrator ComTech, a subsidiary of Elektronikgruppen BK, to deliver the turn-key project, dubbed "Norrken."
"We chose ECI Telecom and ComTech for the flexibility of the entire solution, and their innovative approach to optical networking. This is just the beginning of the cooperation and we believe that it will continue to develop in the years to come," says Ulf Borbos, product manager for ECI Telecom Gavle.
ECI will initially provide a synchronous digital hierarchy (SDH) backbone network, then deploy its multi-service access system, BroadGate, for the regional networks. BroadGate integrates SDH transmission and delivery access multiplexer functionality. ECI will also deploy its micro SDM-1, 155 Mb/s add/drop multiplexers in the regional networks.
