The 160-channel dense wavelength division multiplexer (DWDM) open platform is a complete set of modules and components necessary to build high-capacity subsystems for 1.6 terabit/s fiber optic telecommunications systems.

The DWDM platform is highly scalable, upgradeable, compact and athermal. A fiber optic system may be economically built using a small initial number of DWDM channels and later scaled for higher channel counts by adding additional modules and components, as network traffic needs dictate. The platform offers designers a high degree of flexibility due to its high performance, scalable design, athermal characteristics, high reliability, and low cost. Components may be mounted directly on system circuit boards because of their size and the athermal design eliminates the need for costly temperature compensation. The system is bi-directional and may be employed as either a multiplexer or demultiplexer.
