Dansk Bredband Selects Enablence As Its Optical Networks Supplier

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada - Enablence Technologies Inc. ("Enablence"), a global leader in optical communications which provides systems, subsystems and components for Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH), metro and long haul markets, announced recently that it was selected by Dansk Bredband A/S ("Dansk Bredband"), a leading broadband communications supplier in Denmark, to be the company's Passive Optical Network (PON) supplier. Dansk Bredband is planning to roll out a major FTTH communications network, comprising of 50,000 homes over the next 2 years.

Enablence's passive optical networking solutions will enable Dansk Bredband to address the market for residential FTTH in Denmark while seamlessly interoperating with existing central office routing and switching equipment. The first project using Enablence equipment will be implemented in North Funen, Denmark, together with the NEF Foundation, an innovative power utility in Denmark.

"Compared with other PON suppliers, Enablence has the best product in the market and a product that best matches Dansk Bredband's service portfolio's needs. Enablence's products will provide top quality data, voice and analogue, digital and video-on-demand services for us and our customers," explained Mikkel Jensen, Technical Director of Dansk Bredband. Mikkel Jensen also emphasised the focus of Enablence's FTTx Networks Division: "Until now, many businesses have thought that it was beneficial to use only larger equipment suppliers, but in my view, the fact that Enablence's Networks Division is focused exclusively on access networks, is an absolute strength. It provides far greater flexibility and allows the company to respond with more focused customer specific solutions."

"Our customers are our partners, and by joining forces with Denmark's leader in this area, we hope to be able to set a standard for the Scandinavian method of better, faster, less expensive and more efficient broadband rollout - both technically and commercially" explained Arvind Chhatbar, Enablence's Chief Executive Officer.

Passive optical networks provide digital TV, traditional analogue TV, data and telephony using one and the same fiber. Enablence FTTx Networks Division's Trident7 platform guarantees open standards and a high level of security, bandwidth and Quality of Service (QoS) right to the end-user. PON based networks and equipment require minimum daily operating maintenance and resources which result in operating cost savings for service providers. The Enablence platform embraces all existing PON standards. Enablence is active in both International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) forums on the development of the next generation of 10Gigabit PON standards.
