An off-the-shelf, CMOS-fabricated, quad-channel transceiver for Fibre Channel applications is designed to be used in high-speed serial data transmission over fibre optic or copper interfaces. Each of the S2076's four channels operate at 1062 MHz in conformance with ANSI X3T11 Fibre Channel specification. The transceiver is a member of the company's SiliconHiway family, and further paves the way toward low-cost, low-power, high-speed data communications across SANs and LANs.

By bundling four channels into a single 23 mm x 23 mm 208-pin TBGA package, the quad transceiver is suited for high-density Fibre Channel switching applications and data broadcast environments. The transceiver also suits designs with stringent power requirements because it dissipates only 2.3W from a single 3.3V power supply (575 mW per channel). Each of the transceiver's four bi-directional channels perform framing for block encoded data, in addition to parallel-to-serial and serial-to-parallel data conversion, over fiber optic, twinax, coax or TLL-compatible interfaces. With a 1.9V differential output swing, each channel is capable of driving signal transmission over 30 meters of twinax cable. The transceiver's transmitter and receiver support differential LVPECL-compatible interfaces.
