Bridging Fast Ethernet Media Converter

A conversion tool that deals with extending Fast Ethernet distances over fiber, the TX to FX Bridging Media Converter is a two-port Ethernet/Fast Ethernet bridge that provides rate conversion for legacy environments, separates collision domains in order to extend distances, and segments traffic to reduce congestion.

The converter can be used to separate a large CSMA/CD collision domain into two collision domains, therefore providing solutions for half-duplex conversion environments, such as extending distances between 100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet hubs. The converter has been specifically designed to provide auto-negotiation (10 Mbps to 100 Mbps and full vs. half duplex) in all 802.3U compliant environments. As a result, network planners can use the converter to connect 10Base-T or 100Base-TX environments to 100Base-FX. The converter provides an unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) port to connect to either 10BASE-T Ethernet or 100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet-compliant devices. The second port features a 100BaseFX Fast Ethernet port allowing the integration of fiber and UTP environments.

The converters are available in a stand-alone format or as slide-in cards to be teamed with the company's Networks' Conversion Centers. The stand-alone converters can be rack-mounted, easing integration with a single power supply.
