APD Photodiode Module for OTDRs

EPITAXX, Inc Avalanche Photodiode (APD) for Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDRs), the EPITAXX EPM 239 series of proprietary APD-based photodiodes, enhances the overall performance of OTDRs.

The module offers the following benefits for low noise applications: high gain performances, M > 30, unusually low total dark current, I_d < 0.2 nA, and overall dynamic range, > 70 dB. These benefits are achieved by the very weak dependence of the total dark current on the bias voltage until it is very close to breakdown, 99.5%, because the APDs are surface-leakage dominated. This benefit will allow OTDR receiver designers to improve their SNR.
The new product features an optically-aligned proprietary back-illuminated APD housed in a rugged stainless steel case.
