Anritsu Company Showcases OTDR Technology To Simplify Installation And Maintenance Of FTTP, FTTH, And FTTC Networks

Access Master is a Small, Affordable, Metro-OTDR for Last Mile Access Network Testing

Today at Supercomm, Anritsu Company showcased the Access Master MT9080 series, a compact and affordable metro-OTDR designed for last-mile FTTx access network testing. Access Master is a major improvement for metro area operation over existing OTDRs in terms of overall performance and ease of use, with optical power measurement capability and a light source as standard features.

The Access Master has been developed for professionals responsible for installing and maintaining fiber links to the premises (FTTP), home (FTTH), or curb (FTTC). Recognizing the need for combining metro-area accuracy with service provider simplicity, Anritsu has designed the Access Master MT9080 series with a user-friendly keypad and easy one-button measurements for analysis.

Advanced technology incorporated in the Access Master provides the performance necessary for accurate analysis of high precision metro area optical fiber networks. It supports multiple wavelengths of 1310nm/1550nm/1650nm for single mode fiber and features a very short dead zone of less than 1 m. Existing OTDR solutions are less effective in shorter metro area fiber links, harder to use, and more expensive.

The Access Master is also far smaller and lighter than conventional OTDR instruments, with dimensions of 7 x 10 inches and a weight of only 4.4 pounds. These features make it much more suitable for use in metro area applications. For additional flexibility, a built-in light source and optical power meter give the unit a valuable Optical Loss Test Set capability.

Production quantities of the Access Master MT9080 series will be available in the fall of 2004.
