Anritsu Company Introduces OTDRs For FTTx Networks

ACCESS Master MT9081 is All-In-One Analysis Solution for Installation and Maintenance of FTTx Networks

Richardson, TX — Anritsu Company introduces the ACCESS Master MT9081 Series of metro-area OTDRs that combines the measurement and analysis functions of an OTDR, optical power meter, light source, optional visible light source, and IP network tester in a single portable instrument. By combining the functions of multiple instruments, the ACCESS Master MT9081 Series provides an all-in-one handheld solution that can be used to confirm optical access service connections as well as IP network transmission performance.

The ACCESS Master MT9081 has been developed for professionals responsible for installing and maintaining fiber to the premises (FTTP), fiber to the building (FTTB), and fiber to the curb (FTTC) networks. Recognizing the need for combining accuracy with simplicity, Anritsu has designed the ACCESS Master MT9081 with a user-friendly keypad and a series of one-button measurements for analysis, in addition to uniquely high performance. ACCESS Master MT9081 is a significant improvement over previous testing methods, such as using multiple testers or single instruments with a modular design.

Incorporating unique optical technology, the ACCESS Master MT9081 has a wide 38.5 dB dynamic range, high spatial resolution (distance range divided by number of sampling points) of 5 cm, and a short dead zone of 1 meter. This combination allows the ACCESS Master MT9081 to perform highly accurate analysis and fault location on fiber lengths up to 160 km (100 miles). It also features a large TFT color LCD so that measurement results can be read easily.

The optional IP function of the ACCESS Master MT9081 allows it to measure full wire rate download speed during installation and troubleshooting, a dramatic improvement over the conventional PC-based speed measurements that have been used until now. With the function, network performance can be measured accurately without the confusing influence of a particular PC's specifications (CPU clock speed, memory size and OS).

The ACCESS Master MT9081's IP function supports tests for ping, trace route, throughput measurement, and frame counts on 10/100 Mb and 1000BASE-TX Gigabit Ethernet networks. It also supports 1000BASE-T jumbo frames and VLANs (Virtual LANs). Having both Ethernet/IP and optical fiber test functions in a single instrument greatly reduces the amount of time required to test, troubleshoot, or repair metro networks.

Six models, covering the 1310/1550/1650 nm wavelengths, are available in the ACCESS Master MT9081 Series. The ACCESS Master MT9081 measures 254 (w) x 162 (h) x 61 (d) mm and weighs less than 2.2 kg (4.8 lb).
