<%=company1%> has been awarded the contract for the Automatic Train Control (ATC) system for the new Las Vegas driverless monorail system, now under construction. Bombardier will supply and install the comprehensive electrical and electro-mechanical systems of the line. The contract is valued at 12 million Euros.

Alcatel, through its Transport Automation Canadian unit, will provide its industry leading communications-based technology (CBTC) for mass transit train control. The Alcatel solution will be based on a 2.4 GHz wireless network allowing direct communication between wayside control units and train vehicles. It provides a number of benefits including operation flexibility, reduced equipment along the track, and easier maintenance.

The new monorail will run over 6,4 km and will provide direct service to 8 major resort properties as well as to the Las Vegas convention center. It is expected to carry 19 million passengers per year when the service starts in 2004.

Following similar train control implementations in Tampa airport, Newark international airport, DisneyWorld and Jacksonville's Automated Skyway, this contract reinforces Alcatel's leading position as provider of advanced train control solutions for small to medium-sized mass transit operations.
