ADC's D17 Tools Links Design, Estimating and Bid Specifications; New Features to ADC D17 Software Further Speeds Design of Communications Facilities for Buildings

Source: ADC
ADC, a leading global supplier of fiber optics, network equipment, software and integration services for broadband, multiservice networks, today announced enhancements to ADC's D17 Tools. The D17 Tools is used primarily during the design phase of construction projects to help determine the design and cost of voice and data infrastructures. The new enhancements to D17 Tools include linkage of design, estimating, and bid specifications within the software. Now, once a drawing is complete, estimates and bid specifications can be created with the push of one button.

This advanced software package provides robust yet easy-to-use tools that help architects, consultants and engineers organize the design activities of communications network facilities for buildings. It is the only software tool on the market based upon the proposed Division 17 addition to the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI) MasterFormat(TM).

With the enhancements, ADC's D17 Tools is the only package that integrates CAD drawing, estimating and bid specifications. By linking these functions, users should be able to save time and money by reducing errors and rework. For example, drawing a typical communications equipment room, using AutoCAD alone, takes approximately three and a half hours. With D17 Tools, which enhances AutoCAD with such features as ready-made templates and powerful scaling capabilities, drawing the same communications equipment room can be reduced to less than 40 minutes.

"It is apparent that Division 17 is coming. It will change the way architects, consultants, engineers and end users design, build and manage voice and data networks," said Jane Livingston, director of Data Connectivity Systems for ADC. "With Division 17 and ADC's D17 Tools, the communications infrastructure is planned and designed up front with all of the other building systems. The result should be a significant savings of both time and money for all parties in a construction project."

About D17 Tools
D17 Tools includes three modules: a drawing and design package that enhances standard CAD packages, an estimating package and a package for creating bid specifications.
D17 Tools works seamlessly with most versions of AutoCAD and Visio so that users quickly improve CAD drawing efficiency with little or no training. The easy-to-use estimating feature provides detailed cost estimates based upon the proposed Division 17, reducing turnaround times on estimates while improving accuracy. Finally, users can create professional bid specifications faster than ever with a comprehensive set of documents organized by categories in the CSI PageFormat and SectionFormat in the proposed Division 17 model.
