The performance of an EDFA amplifier can be directly affected by the characteristics of the pump laser diode
The performance of an EDFA amplifier can be directly affected by the characteristics of the pump laser diode. Diode lasers are often adversely affected by unwanted external reflections coupling back into the laser cavity and by temperature and injection current fluctuations. Wavelength and intensity instabilities can result, and EDFA performance is correspondingly degraded.

By combining multiple pumps stabilized with the Bragg Photonics laser lockers at different wavelengths makes is a cost-effective method of pumping amplifiers with much larger pump power. Four 150 mW pump lasers, grating-stabilized at wavelengths of 975.5 nm, 976.0 nm, 977.5 nm, and 978.0 nm can be combined for a total of 600 mW of pump light.

Wavelength Lockers series of Fiber Bragg Gratings are available for accurately fixing the wavelength of 980nm Pump Laser Diodes. The grating forms an external cavity and reflect a very small part of the signal to act as feedback thus locking the pump wavelength. This significantly improves the EDFA performance.

The products can be packaged in our patent pending non-linear temperature compensation technology that provides a center wavelength stability of 0.025 nm from 0° to 80° C while also protecting it from the environment.
