Optical Internetworking Forumneration of highly integrated OC-192/STM-64 devices are ideal for use in SONET/SDH and Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) applications.

The devices are compliant with the Optical Internetworking Forum (OIF)-Physical Layer Group's OIF99.102 standard. The GD16585 transmitter implements SONET/SDH serialization, and the GD16584 receiver with clock and data recovery (CDR) performs SONET/SDH deserialization.

Each device utilizes both a dual 3.3V and -5.2V power supply, and incorporates a 16-bit LVDS low speed interface enabling reduced pin count and guaranteed compliance with the bit-error rate requirements of ITU-T and Telcordia industry specifications. The GD16584 and the GD16585 are used to implement the front-end of SONET/SDH equipment, which consists of the serial transmit interface and the serial receive interface. These devices build on the company's 2nd generation GD16544 and GD16555B devices.

The GD16585 supports line timing (receiver to transmitter) and contains on-chip clock synthesis components, allowing the use of a slower external transmit clock reference. The GD16584 contains a lock detect circuit which monitors the frequency and integrity of the serial data inputs. Under loss of signal (LOS) conditions, the PLL locks onto the local reference clock to provide a steady output clock. Both the GD16584 and GD16585 devices can be used with selectable reference clock frequencies of 155 MHz or 622 MHz, in support of existing system clocking schemes.
