About Us
In 1979 Heinrich Dickhut and two employees began work in a small machine shop in Cullom, Illinois. Fueled by a growing demand for quality in the manufacturing of corrugators and a surge in the plastic industry, Cullom began to engineer and manufacture corrugators. The idea to manufacture corrugators wasn't revolutionary but the engineering behind it was. The corrugators of the early eighties were slow in production and required a high degree of maintenance. Changing mold blocks was simple but the timing process was complicated and timely. Pipe manufacturers also worried about product contamination due to the corrugators lubricating systems. Heinrich knew early on that it was crucial for pipe manufacturers to increase production and reduce downtime. In 1981, Cullom manufactured its first corrugator... a unit that remains in operation today.
The idea behind the machine was simple, eliminate downtime and increase production. Cullom Machine was the first manufacturer to move away from the blow mold style of traditional corrugation manufacturing equipment. Instead, Cullom Machine equipped their machine with a vacuum forming process that pulled the plastic to the walls of the mold blocks and held it there for efficient cooling. This allowed pipe manufacturers the ability to produce stronger pipe with uniform thickness along crowns and valleys at faster speeds.
