Clauss is a company strong in tradition. From humble beginnings back in 1877, Clauss has evolved into a company that now is a leader in providing quality hand tools and related products to markets with demanding needs. Clauss was founded as The Elyria Shear Works in a one-room shop in Elyria, Ohio in 1877. A decade later, the company was moved to Fremont, Ohio, where it became known as The Clauss Shear Works and remains in business today.

We started as a manufacturer of scissors and shears, straight razors, and serrated kitchen knives. Clauss has survived the Great Depression, two world wars, and boom and bust times. It has grown to include six diversified divisions, and has become a prime mover in several varied industries including Fiberoptics/Telcom, a course surely not envisioned by its founders. At the same time, Clauss has maintained its quality standards to provide professional tools that meet the ever increasing demands of our customers worldwide.
