The new Generation 3 collimators are produced with the company's laser fusion technology. This patented process bonds the fiber end directly to the optical center of the lens. Alignment problems are virtually eliminated and this eliminates any epoxy within the optical path. This high piece-to-piece quality translates to a more efficient network assembly process.

The collimators exhibit a low insertion loss, making this product a natural fit for the high-performance demands of the telecommunications market. The collimators' coupling efficiency is two to three times better than other collimating products. The results have been tested in the company's lab, and have also been independently verified by major optical component OEM.

The collimator lens is laser polished to within a millionth of an inch of ideal shape, bringing insertion loss as close to zero as has ever been achieved. Laser fusion joins the
fiber directly to the lens. In addition, the reduced package size of these collimators will be crucial to the development of smaller and more robust telecommunications products.
