White Paper: Fiber Optic Transceivers In Basestation Applications The enormous increase in cellular telephone usage has created demand, additional network capacity, and bandwidth. Cellular network capacity growth is driven by new cell phone functions and services such as cameras, personal organizers, web browsing, e-mail, and text messaging. Base station transceivers with greater bandwidth are in demand. Fiber optic links give cost effective, high bandwidth new capacity with more flexibility than copper links. Fiber links make system modifications and future upgrades simpler than would be possible with traditional copper links. In addition, fiber features inherent data security and superior reliability in hostile environments. By Avago Technologies 10/09/2009 171.7 KB

Technical Article: Fiber Bragg Grating Dispersion Compensation Enables Cost-Efficient Submarine Optical Transport Undersea optical transport is an important part of the infrastructure making up the world-spanning digital transport network. Due to extreme link length and stringent reliability requirements, this important part of the optical backbone poses quite a challenge compared to the more conventional terrestrial systems hence specific technical solutions are required. This article discusses how the unique properties and design possibilities relating to Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG)-based dispersion compensation technology can facilitate desirable cost savings by supporting new terminal designs and link optimized compensations. 05/11/2009 2.31 MB
White Paper: Hard Plastic Clad Silica Fibers For Near UV Applications Many medical applications have been developed using light sources not only in the visible and near infra-red (NIR) regions, but also in the near ultraviolet (near UV) region of the spectrum. Hard Plastic Clad Silica (HPCS) have found much use in medical applications in general, but generally HPCS fibers are not recommended below 400 nm. Here we will describe HPCS fibers with excellent mechanical reliability and with optical losses of only 1.5 dB/m at 275 nm and less than about 0.2 dB/m at 350 nm. How this combination of properties can benefit diagnostic and surgical applications in the near UV will also be discussed. By CeramOptec Industries Inc. 04/02/2009 98.5 KB
Datasheet: Vapor Trap FTS Vapor traps are mechanically refrigerated cold traps that protect expensive vacuum pumps from harmful vapors which can shorten their life. The harmful vapors constitute any condensable gases such as water vapor, which, when allowed into the vacuum pump oil, cause it to break down. This results in decreased lubrication and can eventually cause failure of the pump. 02/05/2009 83.7 KB
