Xanoptix Announces the XTM Series of Optical Transceivers; Sets New Price Performance Levels for Optical Interconnect Devices

April 15, 2002

Xanoptixä, a developer of high-speed optical connection products for next generation electronic data links and optical communication applications, today announced the release of the XTMä Series of Optical Transceivers. This groundbreaking family of products provides bandwidths up to 245 gigabits/ second, and dramatically improves speed, power consumption, and density compared with competitive offerings. The XTM Series has the flexibility to address a wide range of telecom, datacom, computing, and data storage applications and can be used in a variety of architectures: from chip-to-chip to campus and enterprise solutions.

The company's flagship product, the XTM-72, provides a six-fold increase in channel count and bandwidth, while providing an almost six times reduction in space needed on a card edge. Additionally, the series provides the optoelectronics industry with unprecedented advanced features such as enhanced lifetime, programmable channel control, and automatic performance adjustment on all channels.

The scaleable product suite is comprised of a number of full-duplex modules. The XTM-12, XTM-16, XTM-24, XTM-32, XTM-48 and XTM-72 provide bandwidths starting at just a few gigabits/second and moving up to 245 gigabits/second. Each module uses only one single MT-style connector.

"By taking the first step on the path to exploit our technology, we have already developed a set of products that achieve clearly superior performance while simultaneously increasing lifetime and reliability," John Trezza, President and Chief Technical Officer of Xanoptix noted. "This interoperable family of products uniquely positions Xanoptix to enable its customers to adapt easily to a diverse and evolving set of bandwidth needs."

"Parallel optical interconnects are now gaining market acceptance as backplane and box-to-box interconnect solutions for routers and switches. They offer higher interconnect density than existing serial electrical and single-channel optical solutions." said Allan Armstrong, director of optical transport semiconductors at RHK, Inc. "Xanoptix' 16 and higher channel modules target next generation applications where backplane congestion and higher box-to-box bandwidths demand interconnect with a single fiber bundle and higher data throughput per board inch."

"Aside from the significant operational advantages, we also anticipate passing along a substantial cost savings to our customers," stated Tom Faska, Vice President of Engineering at Xanoptix. "The semiconductor industry has shown that each jump in intelligence and integration density results in an equal improvement of the price performance ratio. By bringing Moore's law to the world of optics, we expect to see the same advances with our intelligent optoelectronic products."
