Upon selection of the desired alternative, detailed design of the integrated communication system can proceed. Detailed design deals with both outside - and inside - plant segments. It determines all components as well as routing of the new infrastructure, riser rooms, fiber termination locations, headend and gateway details, fiber numbering plans, optical budgets as well as spectrum utilization assignments and coaxial cabling and RF performance calculations. System design must identify all infrastructure components as well as equipment rack-up and wiring between the headend and each required outlet location. Based on the completed system design, a new budgetary cost estimate can be prepared for both capital equipment and implementation. The completed design and system performance specifications, routing and equipment placement data are collected and integrated into the RFP or IFB documentation.
