The Soneplex EQLX module is an optical unit that provides cost-effective, reliable transmission of four E1 signals, utilizing 8 Mbps optical E2 transport. The EQLX utilizes two fibres, with either an FC or SC type connector, and can operate in protected or non-protected modes. Non-protected mode requires one EQLX module per four E1s in-stalled in the Soneplex Loop Extender shelf at the central office, and one EQLX at the remote end. Protected mode requires two EQLX modules at each end of the circuit and is selectable by software for either line or path protection. The EQLX is ideal for low density E1-based fibre applications, such as cellular and PCS transport and tenant services within business parks or malls.

The Soneplex E1 Quad Loop Extender (EQLX) module converts four multiplexed, E1 signals into an optical E2 for delivery over two singlemode optical fibres. The optical E2 is converted back to four E1s at the customer premises. It supports optional 1+1 protection and provides extensive alarms and diagnostic capabilities.
