The 2x2 Prism Switch provides channel selection from a pair of input fibers to a pair of output fibers. Actuated electrically and operating independently of data rate and signal format, the component uses a moving prism between fixed collimator pairs. The switch is used for node bypassing in FDDI and SONET rings and active optical add/drop multiplexing. The switch is housed in a compact, environmentally stable package designed for mounting on a printed circuit board or within a module.
