Tellabs Operations, Inc.500 Multiservice Transport Switch (MTS) is a next-generation system that provides SONET/SDH gateway, DWDM and data switching capabilities in a single platform. These capabilities include support for ATM, IP and multiprotocol label switching (MPLS).

Tellabs Operations, Inc.500 system, which is the industry's only carrier class transport system designed around a single, cell-based switching fabric, enables service providers to support ATM/IP and TDM traffic simultaneously. This enables quick provisioning to maximize revenue, lowers their broadband networking costs and improves network manageability.
Tellabs Operations, Inc.500 MTS provides full connectivity between DWDM and OC-192 rings and aggregates partially filled ATM/IP payloads, which provides carriers with an efficient use of backbone infrastructure. It will have an initial capacity of 6,144 STS-1 equivalents. The system architecture supports expansion up to 49,152 equivalent DS3/STS-1 ports (2.56 terabits per second) or 1,024 OC-48/STM-16 ports.
