The new Gigabit Copper to Fiber Media Converters are feature rich with the ability to fully auto-negotiate on the 1000BaseT port. The products also offer link pass through, PAUSE and are capable of half/full duplex advertisement. They are available in a standalone form factor or a chassis card for the new Point System Conversion Center. The chassis card version used in conjunction with the Point System Conversion Centre and the Focal Point management software will allow the user to manage these features with a graphical interface.

Utilizing the new 1000BaseT to 1000Base SX/LX converters in conjunction with lower cost 1000BaseT switches affords users the opportunity to upgrade their network to Gigabit speeds in an economical manner. With the gigabit copper to fiber converters network managers can reach users that exist outside the reach of the Gigabit copper distances without having to upgrade to the more costly fiber blade. The company will also offer converters to reach extended distances, up to 70km allowing network managers to reach remote users.

The Gigabit Ethernet converters will convert 1000BaseT to 1000Base SX or LX. They are fully compliant with 1000BaseT IEEE 802.3ab and 1000BaseSX/LX IEEE 802.3 1998 standards.
