The Filter Tap Coupler is constructed using the company's Cyllindrical Filter WDM packaging technology. The component uses a hard-coated thin-film interference filter mounted between a pair of GRIN lens collimators. The coupler taps a small percentage of light from a transmission line with very low loss. The tap signal can be used to monitor power level, signal-to-noise ratio, bit-error rate, or wavelength drift over time without disrupting carrier signals. The coupler is housed in a compact, environmentally stable package that offers superior resistance to humidity and temperature and is suitable for mounting on a printed circuit board or within a module.
