Composite Cables
Copper wire twisted pairs and waterblocking yams are stranded longitudinally along the buffer tube for craft friendliness. Two ripcords, water swellable tape, and armor tape are applied and then a polyethylene sheath is extruded over the DualCom cable package. Available in fiber counts from 1 to 6 and twisted pair counts from 4 to 6 in either 19 or 22 AWG, DualCom cables reduce the overall deployment costs of OSP Broadband networks by minimizing the number of sheaths removed at splice points, entry port sealing requirements at hardware locations, and the cable cost. DualCom cable requires hardware compatible with both fiber and copper splicing in the same enclosure. Corning Cable Systemsle Systems has developed a line of hybrid closures to utilize the advantages of DualCom cables in various applications. The combination of twisted pair and fiber in a single sheath make this cable ideal for use as a broadband node or distribution cables or as a remote camera cable in military, campus and Intelligent Transport System applications.
