Alcoa Inc. [AA] has acquired all of the assets relating to the fiber-optic product lines of Thomas & Betts Corp. [TNB] for an undisclosed amount of cash.

The sale includes splitters, couplers, cable assemblies, and fiber management systems for original equipment manufacturers and optical systems suppliers marketed under the Aster brand name.

The Aster business will become part of Alcoa Fujikura Ltd. (AFL), one of 25 Alcoa business units. The Aster business is located in Attleboro, Mass. and employs approximately 90 people, including engineers and manufacturing personnel.

AFL is a global provider of fiber optic products and services to the electric utility, telecommunications, data communications and broadband industries.

AFL is headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee, with manufacturing and service locations throughout the United States, Mexico and the United Kingdom.

Memphis, Tenn.-based Thomas & Betts manufactures electrical connectors and components.
